TRANSFORM YOUR SPACE

with me

I’m Karen Messer. I help transform spaces into supportive, comfortable and healthy environments.

I use my knowledge of sensory design, coaching, and organization to create happier homes!

Me

I love organizing. I love seeing how rooms can be transformed after re-arranging their contents. I believe our surroundings affect us at a deep level, making them an important part of our day-to-day wellbeing.

The way I work is informed by my PhD in Relational Space & Organizations, but my love of space goes back as long as I can remember. For me, decluttering doesn’t mean minimalism and I don’t believe you need to spend a lot of money to have a beautiful, supportive, space. It’s about taking the time to discover what works for you.

Why I do this work

It Matters

Space orients us. Just as we shape our surroundings, they shape us. Hospital patients heal faster in rooms with windows. Loud work environments affect employees sleep at home (long after leaving the office). People make different decisions in messy versus clean rooms. Seeing the natural movement of trees outside, or in shadow on a wall, has the same impact as meditation.

Space is Relational

Feeling overwhelmed? In a rut? I’ve got you. It's much easier to work on a project when you have support. Together we’ll figure out what you need and how we can accomplish it.

Addressing your space can be emotional. I often think of myself as an aesthetic therapist because our spaces hold behaviour patterns, memories and things we’d rather stuff in the closet.

There can be shame buried in our piles of stuff. I hold no judgement.

Real Impact

On the surface, it might feel like an organized storage closet is not that important, but it is. When your space isn’t functional, it can actively work against you by making it harder for you to do the things you want to be doing.

A room can add to your anxiety, which might influence your response to a screaming child.

Seeing the immediate changes in the homes I work in is very meaningful.

Things to consider:

  • Do you feel uninspired when you walk into your home?

  • Do you wish your space was different but don’t know how to make it happen?

  • Is your space something you ignore because it feels overwhelming?

  • Does it ever feel like your space is working against you?

  • Do you want change, but find it difficult?

  • Are you moving (or just moved) and don’t know where or how to start?
